After a long day in the city center, you can relax in the chestnut garden. A bourgeois selection of drinks and food, at normal prices, is offered at the bar (self-rule). When the visibility is good, you can let your gaze wander over the city and the foothills of the Black Forest or admire the Vosges, on the French side of the Rhine, on the horizon. For people who are not good on foot, there is an elevator that goes almost to the beer garden. This can be reached via the bridge at Schwabentor. If you prefer something upscale, you should choose a place in Greiffenegg-Schlössle.

Great location with a beautiful view. However, you have to be a little careful with the drinks and food. My second apple juice spritzer had foam on top and some black particles were floating in the drink. The tarte flambée obviously comes from the freezer. That's why not so good.

Most beautiful beer garden in Freiburg with a great view. You can walk up from Schwabentor or take the elevator from Greiffenegg-Schlössle. Half a liter of beer costs € 4.90 without a glass deposit. The portion of fries € 4.50, which is a very large portion. Great ambience I can only recommend it.

Nice beer garden with a great view, unfortunately only Freiburg Ganter beer. You have to like it or stay tough. Never liked Ganter, a shame about the beautiful view. Really deserves a good beer

Great view, a little expensive.

This is one of the most beautiful beer gardens I know. Even in times of corona you can sit comfortably with enough distance. The view of Freiburg is sensational and in the evening when the hell valleys come it is nice and fresh even on hot summer days. Even on short visits, the chestnut garden is always worth a visit.

Great view, but you also pay accordingly. Often crowded on weekends. Better be there early and reserve a table ...

The outdoor spaces are particularly recommended because of the beautiful view of Freiburg. But it is often very crowded here and you have to queue up a bit to get your drink, but this is still limited. The tables are glued and the bachelorette parties create a good atmosphere. But the evening light makes up for it. Contactless payment possible without any problems. Elevator (albeit adventurous) available.

The view up there is nice. You can go up for a beer. But the prices are way too high! Our currywurst was not a currywurst. Just a completely fried sausage in a lot of tomato sauce and a touch of curry. Too bad. But we won't eat up there any more.

Idyllically beautiful location with a view of the Dreisamtal or the Munster, Kaiserstuhl and Vosges. Particularly nice atmosphere in the evening with beautiful sunsets. Generous sitting even in Corona times. A-H-A without problems!

Top location to enjoy one or more beers with a view. In times of coronavirus you have a lot of space here. You can also eat, but you shouldn't expect any culinary delights.

Main food was good and they also gave us free pretzels!! I would have liked the toilets to be cleaner though...SMELLY

Wonderful beer garden with the best view over Freiburg. A steep climb that is rewarded. If you like to stretch your legs further, there are plenty of opportunities from here.

Super nice. Biergarten overlooking Freiburg from the Castle Hill. Just 5 minutes walk from altstadt. Super nice atmosphere with mostly younger locals. Food was good. For once salat that was not pickled ?. With a litre of good beer. Only forgot the fries. Try them out for me.

This beer garden has a wonderful location high above Freiburg and you have a wonderful view over the city. The staff is very nice. The beer garden can only be reached on foot. A visit is highly recommended.

Beautiful view, definitely worth the climb up! You must leave your contact details, disinfect your hands and wear a mask (measures Corona ...). Order at the bar. Once you are seated with your drink it is nice to stay. Also small snacks available but we only drank something. Clean sanitary.

Well, prices go ... are often there ..

We come here for a beer or two every time we visit Freiburg and are never disappointed. Excellent beer choices not too dearly priced, a nice view above the city, and a true biergarten feel to it. You cannot go wrong! It is a bit of a climb uphill to get there but well worth it. During a visit last year there was live music with a talented band playing pop songs from different era's and only charging a small cover to get in. So much fun!

Good food and good beers, very nice atmosphere and views. But the food was slow.

Bought two beers. Got charged for three. I thought this extra charge was a deposit for the glasses. Upon returning the glasses, I asked if there was a deposit and the answer was no. So, I said the girl that served me previously had made a mistake. The girl I spoke to didn’t want to know about it. This is not fair! Do not recommend. Nice view, but not worth getting ripped off for.

Amazing atmosphere

Its about a 5 min steep walk uphill but the view of Freiburg from here is amazing! Plus the price is fine too - half a liter of beer for about 5 euros.
